Hello Everyone!
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of sitting around a table for a meal? Is it a time of distraction? Is it a place where conversation is life giving or is it a place where the complaints of the day are discussed?
Jesus changed the world around a table. Many times Jesus was found eating at the table with tax collectors and known sinners of his day. Jesus set a new culture among his disciples by washing their feet around a table. He gave us communion and the invitation to remember how he saved us at a table. Jesus talked about what the Kingdom was like and invited others to be a part of his kingdom while sitting around a table. Then we see that the early church would also gather together around a meal at the table,
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”
Acts 2:42-47 NIV
We have traded one service night a month to be a night called “The Table”. Instead of having worship and a sermon, we share a meal together around a table. We place our phones on “Do Not Disturb” to declare that we do not want to be distracted by other things but to give God and those we are with our full attention. The night has a topic and a couple questions for each table to discuss. We end the night by taking communion together.
We are praying that as students sit at tables eating on campus with friends, classmates, coworkers they would see the opportunity for the Kingdom of God to be shared and to invite others to the table and into family. Even when they graduate and start sitting around a table in their homes with their families we pray they will do this same thing. We are praying that no matter what table they find themselves at they would take the opportunity their to share about the things of the Kingdom. Who will you invite to the table to know Jesus?
Happy Galentine’s
We spent Valentine’s together as a Dgroup with Autumn and Shea’s Dgroup girls as well. We had 27 girls at my house that night. It was so much fun!
God is moving in so many hearts! One of the guys from our brother Dgroup has decided to make Jesus Lord of his life and is getting baptized soon. Some of my girls have been talking about how the Lord has been breaking their hearts for the lost and the hopeless. I am meeting up with a couple of other girls and I am walking them through how to read the Bible. Some of these girls have never read the Bible for themselves and it is beautiful to see their hunger for more of the word.
Summer Plans
We are planning 10 week and 2 to 3 week trips for our students to be on mission this summer. During the 10 week trips, we will have the opportunity to work jobs and be missional in the market place. We will be taking teams of 25 to 50 to live life together, working jobs and learn more about God together all summer long. For those that can’t go all summer their will be shorter trips as well.
