From the Beginning Again

Hello Everyone!

Here we are at the beginning of another new school year. College ministry can sound and feel a little redundant at times. A new freshman class comes in every year and we do some of the same things/events every year. However, through beginning another year I have seen the beauty in starting from the beginning again.

We start every fall semester with Leadership Training where we start from the beginning. In a room filled with leaders who are on leadership for the first time or have been on leadership for four years, we take time to explain why we do what we do and who we are doing it for. Why do we reach the college campus and what is our true motivation? It is a beautiful reminder that Jesus spent 100% of his time here on earth making disciples and that is what we are called to do as well. Everything Jesus did and every part of his life was used to make disciples. That is why we go out on campus and make as many friends as possible. We want everything we do to end in discipleship and the girls around us to fall in love with the Lord.

As we are currently an army of 180 college student leaders, we are so excited to meet the 2,000+ Freshmen coming in just a few short days. By the time you are reading this we will have moved in the Freshmen and spent a week meeting them and making them feel welcome at UCA. We will be spending these next weeks on campus inviting all our new friends into community. Every Freshman is looking for a place to belong while in college and we have the best community to offer. As we have experienced the love of God in our own lives, that is what compels us to love others and invite them into our lives. That is what we do, we invite students on campus to be our new best friends!

The beginning of a new school year comes with so many excitements and wonders. As Freshman are coming to college for the first time they not only experience nervous jitter bugs but an excitement of what is to come. With eyes wide, their futures set before them with great expectation. For some the wonder they hold is a wonder of who God is. Their wonder may come from a curiosity of never knowing who God is. Please pray that we meet those who hold that kind of wonder and readiness to hear who God is.

This year the group of girls I’m leading and I will be focused on reaching a freshman dorm named Hughes Hall. We have been praying that our new best friends will come out of this dorm. We pray this dorm will be a place of peace and light for all who live there. Please be praying for the residence in this dorm so we would have so many open doors and opportunity for intentional conversations over these next few weeks.

I can’t wait to introduce you to all our new best friends this next semester! God is going to do amazing things this semester! Thank you all for your sacrifice in time given in prayer and in finances to send others into unreached places.

Thank you for passing on the heart of God to the next generation! I would not want to do this without such a wonderful support team! ~ Alyssa
