Power of Devotion & Perseverance

Writer's picture: AlyssaAlyssa

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:42-47

Can you imagine this type of community? As I read this I was amazed that the Lord added to their number daily. I prayed, Lord, let it be! Let it happen again! Let our number in Dgroups be added to daily.

Our response as a Dgroup was that we would devote ourselves to reading through the New Testament by December 14th. We have devoted ourselves to sacrificial prayer, tithing our time, and giving God two hours every day. We have devoted ourselves to being in this together. We have devoted ourselves to no social media of any kind for the rest of the semester. You know its the Lord when college students are giving up Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Netflix, Hulu, and Video Games to hear the Lord’s voice and be near to Him.

Testimony of Devotion

One night as we were praying, one of the girls in Dgroup told us that when she lays down to go to sleep at night she is looses feeling in her arms and legs. We gathered around her and prayed over her. That night and every night since then she has had no issues with her arms and legs loosing feeling and she is getting better sleep.

We committed to this together on a Thursday. On Saturday, I met a new girl and invited her to Dgroup. On Monday, a girl came up to me at our Chi Alpha service and asked if she could come to my Dgroup. On Wednesday, I was on campus and met a new girl, invited her to Dgroup and she is coming now too! God is answering prayers and adding to our number in Dgroup!

Power of Perseverance

I can’t wait to see what God will do with our devotion as we stay persistent. Our perseverance in the spiritual disciplines MATTER. Some of these girls have never read the Bible or spent 30 mins in prayer let alone 2 hours. Perseverance is persistence in doing something regardless of difficulty or delay of success. God is calling us to have perseverance in our obedience. Not just for a moment or while we feel like being obedient but everyday. I’m looking forward to telling you what God will do with our perseverance in obedience.

Please pray for these girls as they press into this challenge. Pray they will experience life in their sacrifice to pursue God.

You are welcome to join us in this same challenge and see what God will do! It would be awesome to hear what the Lord does through your devotion and perseverance. Thank you for passing on the heart of God to the next generation! I would not want to do this without such a wonderful support team!
